I agree, the worst part for me is putting the things together, cleaning and priming. One or two models is okay, but after that it starts becoming painful to do.
I must say the worst part of the hobby is scraping off those mould lines, building something that doesn't quite fit together which requires more work or gluing something into the wrong place and quickly trying to peel it off before the glue fully sets. Also playing against gamers who aren't sportsman like and maybe take games too seriously and suck all the fun out of it, leaving you like a sour prune and never wanting to play the game for a while. *BREATH* and so that I don't seem too negative the best part is when people positively comment on your army you have laboured on for years and makes everything worthwhile!
My favorite part is converting and building the models. The prep work is the worst. I dislike trimming the models the most once that's all done. It's pure joy.
Actually starting painting is my least favorite part. Going from the blank model to undercoats is like pulling teeth. Once that's out of the way, I cruise. I need to get an airbrush to make that all less painful.
Also assembling for me. Airbrushing has cut down so much on time needed to paint, but kits are becoming more complex. Some have 100+ pieces in a box now. That's 100+ mold lines to scrape, patch, and glue.
I'd much rather spend that time painting, or god forbid actually playing.
I am with you on this one. Building the kits is painful for me. The cutting, trimming and pre work are all essential but a complete pain in the ass. Get the undercoat on so I can get to painting as soon as possible.
Ironically, building is my favourite part of the hobby. I can't resist converting models for the most part, so it's fun to try to create the image in my head, in model form. Least favourite part?… Cleaning off mould lines, on models with surface texture! It takes a long time to remove them from the likes of MKII/III legs, or a fur cloak!
