Hey guys, I made some good progress on the Techmarine over the weekend, despite the hot temperatures in Germany. So far the painting has been quite enjoyable, because it’s the first model in my Ultramarine collection with such a large amount of red armour. A welcome change. Now all that is left to do are all the arms of the servo-harness. I fear they might be a bit boring to paint… please bear with me 😉

Hi Thomas, the base is basecoated with Codex Grey (Dawnstone), then drybrushed heavily with Longbeard Grey and gave it a good wash of a Devlan Mud/Badab Black mix. After the wash was dry, I drybrushed gently with Longbeard Grey again.
Hi Stahly, thanks for the info regarding the base! I have tried to "replicate" it on my bases yesterday, during my evening painting…and they look great:-). Thank you once more! The rim is some light brown, I used the only "old" paint I have – Graveyard earth…you probably used another one but it seems to be a quite close match.
Have a nice day!
Tomas
It used to be Graveyard Earth, but Steel Legion Drab is the same colour and has a better coverage so I'm using this instead. But Graveyard Earth is fine.
The techmarine looks awesome…the red is very vivid yet not cartoonish; great work!!! Would you mind posting the colours you used and in which order, once you're done with the model? And, if I may ask, would you please post me the recipe for the base as well? Sorry for bothering you, just tryin' to learn from someone who is about milion-miles better painter than I am…
Thanks, Tomas
Sure, I basecoated the armour with old Mechrite Red, washed Badab Black in the recesses and highlighted with old Blood Red and Burning Orange. Mechrite Red is more of a purplish red, if there would have been Mephiston Red back then I would have used that as it compliments Blood Red and Burning Orange better.
Thanks a lot, Stahly! I do not have the Mechrite Red (started with the hobby too late, with the coming of the new paint set:-)) but I have the Mephiston Red and the other paints, which is good – I will try to "follow" what you did on my red model…
Would you please guide with the base as well? It looks really good, neat, clean, yet for the benefit of the model.
Thanks and cheers, Tomas
The blue wax on the purity seals is BRILLIANT!
Great work as ever. I'm painting a techmarine at the moment too and not at all looking forward to the servoharness!
