A friend asked me to paint a commissar for him. Style wise he wanted the model to be a nod towards a Royal Navy Commodore.
At this stage it’s mostly basecoats and shade but I have done the golden yellow sash and white uon the top of the hat.
More to come soon.

Sweet 🙂
Just FYI; RN Commodore rank is a thick gold band, and naval officers have their rank stitched on the cuffs of their No.1s (the black suit). With those two tid-bits, it might be worthwhile to do the whole cuff yellow instead of just the edges?
My missus has an awesome Nikon DSLR. But I'm not using that. 🙂
I've been bequeathed her old Olympus SP-720UZ. It seems to be just right for miniature photos. I do still take about a hundred pics just to find one that works though. I also shoot from a little further away so I have a great depth of field and then crop down the the area I want to show in photoshop.
What kind of camera are you using for the extreme close-ups on the officer's hat? I can't get a focused picture with my current DSLR or phone camera.
