Hey hey everyone, it’s my birthday today! I’ve started painting Beorn. I’m using my new brushes that Stahly bought me as a gift (what a top chap, thank you!) The first time he visited me he was astonished to learn that I only use GW brushes. The second time he visited me he bought this amazing gift. Two Harbin Kolinsky Sable brushes and the legendary Series 7 Windsor and Newton 00. First impressions are wow! I don’t think I’ll be going back to Citadel brushes anytime soon. What brushes do you use?

Hey Garfy,
I know is quite late 😛 , but I wish you all the best for your birthday 🙂
Referring brushes, I have switched ca. half year ago for W&N S7 and as many of you have the same feeling that these are really the best brushes for painting minis (actually using 0, 00, and 1 sizes).

Thank you everyone for the lovely birthday messages on here and my Facebook page.
Happy Birthday Garfy! And thanks for your great work, tutorials and posts – they are of a great inspiration to me! As for the brushes – some GW stuff, couple from Armypainter (character size) and one praised W&N 7 size 00 for details. Wanna buy another one at some point…

Happy Birthday! I use W&N #2,#1, and #0. I also have a Raphael #1 that I enjoy.
Series 7 Windsor and Newton 1, 0 and 00 !!!
Happy Birthday! I can't wait to see the finished Beorn! I still use GW brushes for most of my basecoats and layers, but use the Windsor and Newton Series 7 00 for fine highlights and detailed areas such as faces
Happy Birthday Garf! I'm glad to hear the Windsor and Newton is all it's cracked up to be, I've been umming and ahhing about getting some for a little while. Are the Harbin Kolinsky brushes better for certain sizes then the Windsor and Newton brushes or are they simply more cost effective?
Happy Birthday Garfy!!!!
I must confess I use what ever brush comes to hand and fits what I'm doing, collection contains GW, W&N, army painter, Reeves and a few others but I fond of my W&N ones the most
I currently use Royal&nickel, but I'll replace them with series 7 when they get worn out.
Happy birthday!
I won a Series 7 brush at an event and it blew me away. Unfortunately, I can't get them locally, I have to order them. So I end up with a weird mix of them, a few odd Citadels (I do like their large dry brush), and whatever I can get from my local art store.
Happy b-day, have a brilliant day!
Happy Birthday Garfy!
I am using the "da Vinci" brushes for a couple of years now. I will never go back to the GW brushes, it is a huge difference in quality.
I`m courious how the "da Vinci" brushes compete against the W&N S7?
Happy Birthday Garfy 🙂
Happy Birthday Garfy 🙂
Have fun using the new brushes. I used GW brushes for a very long time, too. Now it's mostly W&N S7 aswell!
Happy birthday vecio!!!
A really nice present Garfy!
Ps
I use a mix of kolinsky sable brushes by Raphael & Dominio. I still have a pair if old GW brushes around…
Happy Birthday!!!
It's Garfy's birthday today so let's all wish him happy birthday… happy birthday mate 🙂
I switched to W&N S7 a while ago and don't use anything else now – I do sometimes wonder if my painting improved because I was also more concerned about ruining them than cheaper brushes so started being more gentle 🙂
